When I took stock of my May moths a week ago, I noted the absence of some prominent regulars from the last two years, notably the Elephant Hawk, Chocolate-tip and Buff-tip. All three have now arrived, the Buff-tip having a narrow escape yesterday afternoon when I was weeding and spotted it just in time before yanking up the feverfew seedling on which it was resting. Here it is with a twig. But which is which? Actually on that score, although it looks like a twig to us humans, does it to a robin? Or a mouse?
