Bernwood Forest, Bucks

Last night two MV traps were run again for three hours from dusk in Bernwood Forest, Bucks, one in Oakley Wood and the other over a mile away in Shabbington Wood.  Small and Common Quaker were still around in ridiculous numbers (more than 1,000 Small Quakers appearing at the Shabbington Wood trap alone), but amongst the 30 species recorded it was good to see some new ones starting to appear, including Frosted Green, Streamer, Brindled Beauty & Pine Beauty.  I seem to remember comments in past years about how unusual it is to see Yellow Horned and Frosted Green side-by-side because the former is usually well over by the time the latter begins its flight period, but with Yellow Horned hanging on after having had such a good season it seemed likely to happen this year.  The Oakley Wood trap contained Yellow Horned (2) and Frosted Green (1), while the one in Shabbington Wood brought in Frosted Green (3).
