Westcott, Bucks

Now that we're into April and there's a hint of things warming up - slightly, anyway - a few new species have started to appear in the garden trap alongside the Orthosias.  On Monday night an Oak Beauty, a species that doesn't appear here every year, while last night the catch included a pair of Early Thorns and a rather faded Oak Nycteoline...

...and potted this afternoon from the window in the garden shed, Phyllocnistis saligna just out of hibernation.  With a wing length of less than 3mm, getting a decent image is almost beyond the capabilities of my camera!

  1. Hi Dave, regarding the P. saligna. I think you've done very well just getting a shot of it! I've only had one here and it was an almost impossible task to just to get it to sit still.

    1. Haha, true! I almost gave up, but then gave it a blast of full flash and that stunned it into stillness for about five seconds!
