Last of the common Orthosias

Last night a single Powdered Quaker came to the garden trap for the first time this year, being as usual the last of the common Orthosia species to put in an appearance.  Despite the variety of colours shown in the field guide, those that we get locally are almost exclusively of this form.  The micro Diurnea fagella was also new for the year list here last night.  Luckily there were three examples altogether because the first arrival fell prey to one of our local Brown Long-eared Bats and the only surviving evidence was a single wing on the lawn.
