Hi Mark, Not one I'd expect here either because beech doesn't usually thrive on heavy clay. However, the closest I've had it is actually within sight of our garden, in the grounds of Waddesdon Manor where the Rothschild's planted a few inappropriate trees! Perhaps one of the manor houses in your area has a few specimen beech trees.
There are some big Copper beeches - I have a hedge of it and never found much on it, I got the impression that insects (apart from scale/ wholly aphids) don't like them as much as the type plant.
