Crassa (North Bucks)

Is this possibly Nationally Scarce B Crassa tinctella, rather than C. unitella? Just going on horizontal posture, no significant colour contrast between head and thorax, and early flight period. Or maybe something else I've missed completely!

  1. Hi Keith,
That looks good for tinctella to me and is quite a nice find. There are somewhere between 15 and 20 post-millennium records for Bucks from right across the county, mostly from older woodland although some are garden sightings. I've certainly had it in Salcey Forest up your way.

  2. Thanks for the confirmation, Dave. I potted it up on spec. at about 10:30 pm from the underside of the half-height gazebo which was sheltering the trap from the frequent heavy showers - my homemade-electrics are by no means weatherproof!

  3. And I had one in a garden in Iver, Bucks on 25th May...
