Hello David, That certainly is Dingy Shell. There's no real reason why you shouldn't get it at a woodland edge site near Chesham as it is usually a woodland species. The larvae feed on Alder which isn't all that common in Bucks but I imagine there will be some here and there along the Chess. I don't see the moth all that often but I have had records of it right across the county - although sadly not yet in my own garden!
