Could this be a Dingy Shell??

 And if so, what's it doing at a woodland edge site near Chesham??!!

It was alive in the trap and rested permanently with wings closed. It died later, allowing the upperside shot. Many thanks, David.

    That certainly is Dingy Shell. There's no real reason why you shouldn't get it at a woodland edge site near Chesham as it is usually a woodland species. The larvae feed on Alder which isn't all that common in Bucks but I imagine there will be some here and there along the Chess. I don't see the moth all that often but I have had records of it right across the county - although sadly not yet in my own garden!
