Mecyna flavalis

Caught a single Mecyna flavalis in the Robinson trap in Sonning last night. I gather it is fairly rare but found in Berkshire. Is it on the increase?

  1. Hi Alastair,
There are certainly very few records for it in Bucks (only about a dozen) where it is restricted to a handful of chalk downland sites in the south of the county, although it must wander sometimes because I had one in my garden in the Vale of Aylesbury back in 2013 (confirmed by dissection). Maybe Martin Harvey can update us on the situation in Berkshire.
