Ostrinia nubilalis?

I think this is O. nubilalis but can't quite rule out Sitochroa verticalis. As I've not seen either of these species before I'd appreciate confirmation/correction. It was attracted to our house lights last night here at Loosley Row, Bucks.

Thanks,

Nigel

  1. Hi Nigel,

Yes, that's a female Ostrinia nubilalis (the male is much darker and thus easier to ID). I think you'll be seeing it again (and the much darker male) because it seems to have become established in parts of Bucks and has certainly become quite common over here in Westcott. I had one back in 2006 which was probably a migrant, then a gap until 2018 (1), 2019 (1), 2020 (8) & 2021 (19 so far!).
