An odd-looking phycitinid sitting on one of the vanes of last night's garden trap was potted at 4am this morning and in the light of day proved to be
Ancylosis oblitella, yet another new garden species and this time only the second site it has been recorded from in VC24 after the late George Higgs's garden in Milton Keynes. Thought to be mainly a salt-marsh species, it is known to move around inland when conditions are suitable.

Two other species new for the year list last night were
Aethes smeathmanniana and Rosy Minor. Quite a distinctive moth, the latter is a chalk grassland specialist so is not at all a regular here although I have recorded it in the garden two or three times previously.
