Micro ID and beetles

Last night's warmer conditions brought out quite a few micros including this one I am not sure about.

At 5mm in length I thought it might be Argyresthia albistria?

There were also plenty of extras in the trap including a Speckled Wood and literally thousands of these small (5mm long) beetles. Every egg box was covered in them.

  1. Hi Andy, yes to Argyresthia albistria and I think (although I'm no expert on beetles) that your trap invaders will have been Bradycellus verbasci. They are quite well known for coming to light in huge numbers and I had 1000+ here last night too.

  2. I also had alot - they tend to make the moths more fidgety

  3. Many thanks for the prompt replies. It looks as if I might get my all time garden moth list to 500 by the end of this year. A Dark Spectacle brought the macro list to 300 last week. Although I have added quite a few new species this year there are also quite a lot of species that I caught in 2016 or 2017 that have not appeared this year. The beetles are certainly a nuisance when they disturb the moths!
