I ran a trap at the museum last night for a children's event we call Terrific Tuesdays and it was nice to get quite a few new species for the year, including Orange Swift, Mocha, Lesser Yellow Underwing, Square-spot Rustic, Rosy Rustic, Six-striped Rustic, Tawny Speckled Pug, Lesser Treble Bar, Tree Lichen Beauty, Flounced Rustic,
Yponomeuta plumbella,
Epinotia nisella and
Pandemis cinnemomeana. Also at home I found an Old Lady trying on one of my wife's dresses!
I'd appreciate some help with some of these as well.
Firstly this poorly marked thing...
Secondly this - one of the Mochas?
Thirdly a white-antennaed micro. Maybe not the best view but I hope something here is characteristic:
Fourthly, this grey micro:
Fifthly, a very worn beast, but it had a noticeably pink hue to it:
Sixthly, this spotted micro. No better view I'm afraid:

Hi Dave, those that I can help with are 2) Clay Triple-lines, 3) Argyresthia albistria, 6) a Phycitodes sp which probably would have needed dissection anyway and 7) Argyresthia goedartella. The others are rather too dark or nondescript to ID with any certainty.
ReplyDeleteYou aren't the first to be caught out by the second generation of Clay Triple-lines (been there, done that!). They are very variable and some can be very pink with barely discernible "lines" so at first glance they look like something far more interesting.
