Nemophora and others

The first two images are of what I think may be Nemophora cupriacella spotted sitting on scabious at the Hook Norton Cutting BBOWT reserve yesterday afternoon. The photos taken in bright sunlight actually don't really do justice to the wing colouration.

These others are from last night's catch. Udea prunalis?

A metallic micro 6mm in length. Maybe a Caloptilia?

  1. You may well be correct with the Nemophora, Andy, although metallica may also be a possibility depending upon the length of the antennae which isn't all that clear in your image. A smart moth!

Udea prunalis is correct, while the last one is an Argyresthia and looks to me like one of the plainer forms of goedartella.

  2. Thank you. I think the Nemophora is probably cupriacella as other images show the antenna to be about the same length as the forewing. Also in the field the two-tone appearance of the wings was more obvious than is shown in the photo. I don't know whether this species has been recorded from the site previously or indeed what Oxfordshire records there are.
