Ermine problems

Can anyone suggest a species?  I was looking at Apple and Spindle...but the photo is not great and it then flew away!

    Hello Barnaby, it is an Ermine but that's about as far as anyone can go without having raised it from a larva. As I've said before, the micro field-guide did a great disservice to accurate recording by suggesting that padella, malinellus, cagnagella and rorella can be separated on sight. They can't.
