Hello Alan, what brought you to that conclusion? It looks to be a fairly standard Large Yellow Underwing to me. Just a brief perusal of the text in the ID guides would tell you that Lunar Yellow Underwing is very uncommon and unlikely to be found in our area.
Before suggesting such a rarity as Lunar Yellow Underwing I would suggest it is essential to see the lunar mark on the hindwing. You then just need to sort it out from Lesser Yellow Underwing!

ReplyDeleteSmall size and extent of black mark near fore wing tip led me astray. I know they are rare. Wishful thinking on my part!
