No Large Yellow Underwings!

I have just realised how few Large Yellow Underwings I have been getting this year. Last night's catch of 555 moths (103 species) had no Large Yellow Underwings. There was however a beautiful fresh specimen of a Least Yellow Underwing. Others of note were a Small Rufous and two Barred Hook-tips - a new species for me.

  1. Barred Hook-tip is nice. It hasn't found my garden yet because beech doesn't do that well on clay so there is very little of it around here. I live in hope, though, because I did trap it once at nearby Waddesdon Manor where there are one or two specimen trees. There is also a small mature beech plantation within Bernwood Forest although I've not yet found the moth there.
