Wormwood and IDs please

Looks like I got a Wormwood this morning - unfortunately I thought it was an odd Shark so I didn't pot it or get a great photo but having looked at the books I don't think there can be any doubt.

I think I have Linaecia phragmitella?

Then I think it is a Slender Brindle

The dark looper looks like a small dark Willow Beauty?

Finally a couple of pics of the Wormwood.

  1. Hello Mark, you could try and sound a little more excited - that is indeed Wormwood and it is a very uncommon moth!

The others are as you say, Limnaecia phragmitella, Slender Brindle and Willow Beauty. I really hope you've got Willow Beauty sorted in your mind now...it is quite an easy moth to recognise and is very common indeed locally.

  2. Thanks Dave, the dark Willow beauty was also quite small - that and a Small Tortoiseshell ab. nigra made me think I'd just got a darker Shark. Wish I'd got a better pic! That with the Scarce Silver-lines last week was possibly my best catches so far. Re the wormwood - I wonder if it will also feed on the ornamental silver artemesias - I have a reasonable sized plant of Powys Castle in the garden.
