Clearwings in Denham

Neil Fletcher and I met up at Denham Country park this morning with the intention of trying for a number of Clearwings. A look at the trunks of the poplars in the car park showed the tell-tale emergence holes - some still with larval case, but before we could get the lures out I looked up and saw these doing what birds, bees and apparently Hornet moths do.

The main target was Red-tipped,  this species has been found a few miles up the road in Herts, and the habitat here looks very suitable, unfortunately either it was too early in the day, the lure doesn't work or the moth isn't present!
