I've started to get a few micros - bit disappointed that I'm still struggling to ID them.
really bad pic, it's familiar - maybe Bryotropha terrella?
Bad picture of Chrysoteuchia culmella
Hedya nubiferana or Hedya pruniana?

Help!

Hi Mark,
ReplyDeleteI know moths can occasionally be uncooperative, but a bit more time taken over getting better-lit photos which clearly show the markings would certainly give us more of a fighting chance when trying to establish IDs (that's a general comment to everyone - we seem to have had rather a lot of dodgy in-pot images or moths at awkward angles in egg-boxes to look at lately. It can sometimes be challenging enough to work out an ID from a really good image!).
Other than being a Gelechid, the first is really too dark to work out what it is from that image, I'm afraid. However, even though it is almost tail-on, there is sufficient in the second image to confirm your suggestion of culmella. The other two are Hedya nubiferana and Eucosma campoliliana.
thanks Dave. The first 2 were gone before I could pot them so I knew it was a long shot. Normally I wouldn't post them but it's been such slim pickings here this year.
