Bernwood Forest

After getting withdrawal symptoms due to the long run of indifferent weather, back on Wednesday night I decided to try some local away trapping and ran a couple of MV lights in Oakley Wood, Bernwood Forest for the usual three hours.  The results actually weren't too bad even though nothing turned up that was unexpected.  There were somewhere around 110 species altogether, with between 70 and 80 to each trap and including those shown below.

Pseudosciaphila branderiana, Bernwood 19th June

Poplar Lutestring, Bernwood 19th June

Orange Moth, Bernwood 19th June

Rosy Footman, Bernwood 19th June

It was Tortrix viridana time, with a couple of hundred to each trap, but the next most numerous species was Blotched Emerald (49 between the two lights).  The psychid Taleporia tubulosa and other nice species such as Birch Mocha and Common Fan-foot also appeared, while first-timers for me this year included Crassa tinctella, Parachronistis albiceps, Archips crataegana, Epinotia demarniana, Peach Blossom, Pine Hawk-moth & Minor Shoulder-knot.
