The cream of last night's garden catch (N. Bucks). 2 traps, 10 individuals of 5 species - and this is the first of June! Mind you, I measured a temperature of 3C at 4:45 am, so most moths probably stayed tucked up in bed!
Well I thought I was doing fairly badly with 71 moths of 27 species last night, (also North Bucks), but clearly I shouldn't complain! That included two NFY, Gold Spot and Nemophora degeerela.
I'm also in North Bucks and Wednesday night started well for me - I visited my two traps two or three times before going to bed and there was a steady run of moths (which I potted) landing on the sheet behind each of the traps. I got up at 4 a.m. with the expectation that I would just seal the traps and go back to bed, but a quick look indicated that very few moths had actually entered the traps, so I emptied them there-and-then. Given the good start earlier in the evening, I ended up with what I thought was a relatively disappointing 79 moths of 33 species. However, it now seems that I should have been content with that! Brown Rustic, four Small Square-spot, Middle-barred Minor and Coronet were NFY.
