Hi there,
I'm very excited! Just used my new lures - SUCCESS!!! Here are the results. Pretty sure that I have Red-belted and Yellow-legged, but oddly, I thought I had put out the Large Red-belted lure!! Must have mixed them up. The Yellow-legged doesn't quite match the illustrations either, so a quick confirmation of both species from one of you experts would be appreciated!
Many thanks, David
I think the first is Orange-tailed which I am getting in large numbers to the VES ture. The second is probably Red-belted. They seem to be more attracted to the lure intended for Large Red-belted than to their own lure so you probablty didn't get your lures muddled.
ReplyDeleteHi David,
ReplyDeleteAs Andy says, the first is Orange-tailed. The specific lure AND for Orange-tailed has only become available fairly recently and in my view it isn't one worth acquiring because the moth comes so well to VES (which is aimed at Yellow-legged). When using the lures you do need to make sure that you look closely at each moth because sometimes the "wrong" species will turn up. Repeating what Martin Townsend said a few days ago, please ensure that you add a note to each of your records which identifies the lure used (the approximate time of arrival can also be helpful).
