Worminghall, Bucks

The year list is now on 293 (un-verified). Highlights and some queries below. Any help with the micro identifications as always much appreciated.

Lappet- the first one of the year. Always thrilled to see these.
Powdered Knot-horn, Delplanqueia dilutella
Grey Poplar Bell, Epinotia nisella?
Plain Conch, Phtheochroa inopiana?
Red-brindled Dwarf, Elachista rufocinerea?
Phyllonorycter sp?

  1. Hello Peter
Nice Lappet (I always look forward to their arrival too!). The next image is probably going to be Delplanqueia inscriptella (difficult to tell apart from dilutella on sight) which is the only one of the pair that we seem to get locally, but a first-for-site would really need dissection. The next isn't Epinotia nisella (too early for a start) but from that image it isn't possible to be sure what it is. At a guess I'd say it might be Epinotia abbreviana. The next is indeed Phtheochroa inopiana, then you have Mompha ochraceella and what looks to me like an Elachista species (a better photo would be needed for ID).

  2. Hi Dave, thanks very much. I should have known the Mompha as you've corrected me in the past for that. Thanks again.
