Vestal

Vestal, Stowe
Vestal to my actinic trap last night. I wouldn't have thought conditions recently were very good for immigration, so is it possibly locally bred? I had several Vestals last Sep/Oct and I seem to recall that there were quite a lot around generally last year.

  1. Hi Phil,
Who knows?!! But on the subject of immigration, the conditions have actually been reasonable for quite a while, hence the large fall of Rannoch Loopers while we had those easterlies and then there were a few days when southerly winds brought in a number of species (including, I suspect, the Delicates which have appeared at numerous places over the last week or two). Unfortunately we are really a bit too central to benefit all that much as most migrants end up in coastal counties.

  2. I suppose I was remembering that seemingly interminable run of NE winds, which certainly held up bird migration, but actually that was a while ago now.
