Local small holder Sue Sabin found this in her potato patch which we think is a Death Head Hawk Moth. How unusual would this be for the Sibford Ferris area near Banbury
Hello Iain, Amazing beasts, aren't they?! If you look at our on-line Atlas (...that's what it is there for) you'll see that there are occasional reports of Death's-head Hawk-moth right across our region, more often than not as larvae and they're generally from small-holdings or allotments just like this one. It is always an exciting discovery, though, so please do make sure that the basic details (date, location & finder) end up with your County Moth Recorder.
