Help with tricky IDs please

Having looked through the photos from my bumper catch on Monday morning, the following are still puzzling me. Any help gratefully accepted. My best suggestions are as follows. First - Knot Grass or Dusky Brocade. Second - Square-spot Rustic. Third - Yellow-barred Brindle. Fourth - Flounced Rustic. Fifth - Marbled Green.

Many thanks.

  1. Hello John,
Only two out of five, I'm afraid, although you were in the correct family for the final one! In order, they are Nutmeg, Small Square-spot, Yellow-barred Brindle, Flounced Rustic & Tree-lichen Beauty. Nutmeg is a moth which often seems to catch people out because on a quick glance it does look as though it ought to be amongst the Apamea species.

  2. Many thanks Dave. I am kicking myself for not getting Tree-lichen Beauty because I considered it and it didn't look quite right (and I have had several before).
