Neocochylis dubitana and Parsnip Moth

I just read your latest report Dave and noted your comments re Neocochylis dubitana. I had one locally four days ago, but as it was new for me, and given your comments, I thought I'd post it here for confirmation--though I think the ID is pretty certain.

Also I would appreciate comments on this one please, which I think is a worn Depressaria radiella, but it's not a species that has crossed my path before.

Thanks

  1. Hi Phil,
Yes, that's dubitana, looking like atricapitana but with a white head. A nice find. The other one is a Depressaria species but seems too small for the very common radiella (Parsnip Moth). I suspect it will be something more interesting like ultimella or sordidatella, neither of which are in the field guide and both of which turn up in the garden here occasionally. One for the chop!

  2. Thanks Dave, glad I asked!
I'll put it with the next batch for gen.det.
