I'd be grateful for help identifying this chestnut please in my moth trap at Jordans (nr Beaconsfield) 10 April. Seems wrong time of year for Beaded and I understand Dotted is very localised so also unlikely - so hoping photos good enough for someone to recognise it! Thanks for your help.
Hi Mary-Anne,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the blog! That is indeed Dotted Chestnut. It is an autumn species which hibernates and appears again in the spring (when it is far more likely to be seen). It has spread quite rapidly over the past few years and could be found anywhere locally now.
Thank you very much, Dave. Nice to have good news that this moth doing so well.
