Getting better

It's lovely butterfly weather at the moment, with Orange Tops newly emerged here to join the Brimstones, Peacocks and Small Tortoiseshells; and the moths are getting more varied too.  Last night brought a Herald, a Muslin and lots of Brindled Beauties. I wonder why this one, below, chose to sleep with its wings pitched butterfly-style?  Any thoughts?

  1. I've no idea why your Brindled Beauty should have taken up that odd pose, Martin, but I've seen it happen once or twice before with other species. Who knows what goes on in the insect mind, but perhaps it was suffering from an identity crisis!
