Rain stopped play?

When I built my moth trap I included a rain guard and drain holes to protect both the bulb and the moths! I was thinking it would be useful if there was an unexpected shower at night, but it got me thinking. What moths, if any, are caught when it's proper rain rather than the odd shower?

  1. Hello Andrew,

Rain doesn't stop the moths, unless we have monsoon conditions! In fact drizzle or light rain can sometimes give very good results indeed in the moth trap. One of the reasons could be that water droplets will have an effect on the echo-location system used by bats, reducing the likelihood of predation.
