Parornix

From reading the literature, can I assume that the dark band on the labial palp visible in this photo confirms this as Parornix finitimella rather than torquillella?

  1. Hello Adam,
I haven't had a chance to read up what it says in MoGBI but the accepted wisdom is that the common Parornix species all need dissection to get to species. You've mentioned the two which feed on blackthorn, but presumably you also have beech, birch, hawthorn, hazel or rowan nearby which also have their own species?

    1. Hi Dave
A badly written post on my part and probably wishful thinking. I know that parornix need dissection and this one was already saved for Peter. However, I did read that the dark mark on the labial palp is an indicator that this is probably finitimella, devoniella or anglicella. Seeing as I have several confirmed records of the last two, just hoping it's the former.
