Is this Epinotia tenerana?

This micro came to the garden trap last night, and I wondered if it is Epinotia tenerana. The fw length is 9mm.
Here is a view from above.
I would also welcome any thoughts on this rather worn noctuid. The fw length is 18mm, the hindwings are grey, and the abdomen has a distinct orange tip which can be seen in the photo below.

  1. Hello Steve,
I'm not sure about the tortrix. The lighter dorsal marking looks to point forward rather too much for my liking whereas on tenerana it is usually more of a straightish line across the two wings. I think this might actually be the very variable abbreviana so would be worth getting checked. To me your noctuid looks good for a very worn Purple Clay which does have that orangey tip to the abdomen.

    1. Many thanks Dave. I will retain the Epinotia. Purple Clay is also a new addition to the garden list. I would have preferred my first specimen to have been a fresher more well-marked example, but hopefully next time.
