Striped Lychnis?

This moth was in my garden trap on Friday night 2nd July. The forewing measures 20mm. If it had arrived earlier in the year I would have recorded it as a Mullein, but now seems rather late, so is it a Striped Lychnis instead?

  1. Hi Steve,
Mullein is a moth of April and May so to find one in such good condition now would be very unlikely. I had a very worn moth at Grangelands, Bucks (a known Striped Lychnis site) on 15th June this year and have retained it for eventual checking because even that date seemed late for Mullein. It does seem reasonable to assume that this must be Striped Lychnis but if you still have the moth I'd still be tempted to get it checked because it is such a good garden record!

    1. Thanks Dave. I still have the moth, so will keep it for checking.
