I initially filed this under too worn to be ID'd, but having seen David Hastings post below and Nigel's reply, I was wondering if this is also a very worn Brown Scallop?
I did consider this but thought that abdomen looked wrong. Any help appreciated. It would be new for the garden.
Hello Derek,
ReplyDeleteYes, that is Brown Scallop. They do tend to wear quite quickly but don't have much in the way of markings to start with! The only other moth to be wary of is Dark Umber where the male is a similar shape but even if worn you'd still see evidence of the darker band across the centre of the forewing. Both species seem to be having a good season.
Thanks for that Dave. As I say a new one for the garden list.
