A Blog for moth recorders in Bucks, Berks and Oxon
Based mainly on resting posture is the first of these September and the second August?
Andy Newbold, Sibford Ferris, Oxon.
Hi Andy,That's correct. Differences in their cross-lines can be difficult to interpret so the resting position is often the best clue. It is worth looking at their legs too, with those on September Thorn being yellowish while those on August appear to have white "socks".
Many thanks. A useful tip about the legs.
