Grass Wave at Stoke Common

As we arrived at Stoke Common, Ched George was wondering if we might be able to find Grass Wave. Neither of us could remember if it was known from the common (it is, and has featured in previous posts on this blog), and neither of us had seen one for many years.

About an hour later we still hadn't seen one. "Why don't you try that heather patch over there?" Ched advised, and off I went. A minute later and a whitish moth flew up. Thinking it was probably a Brown Silver-lines I netted it, and then realised that it was something more interesting. It was a male Grass Wave, a very pleasing moth to find on a beautiful warm afternoon, especially there wasn't much flying otherwise.

Also noted were Common Heath, Mother Shipton, Degeer's Longhorn Nemophora degeerella, Crescent Groundling Teleiodes luculella, Grey Gorse Piercer Cydia ulicetana and Hook-streak Grass-veneer Crambus lathoniellus.

Thanks to Ched for inviting me on the trip to Stoke Common, and for choosing exactly the right heather patch!
