A very good night last night with nine new species for the garden including this micro, which I think this is Platyedra subcinerea, but since it is apparently "very local" it seems a bit unlikely?
This has me puzzled, but my first guess was Scalloped Hazel f nigra, though it doesn't seem 'scalloped' enough.
More likely perhaps is Tawny-barred Angle of the form nigrofulvata
Hi Phil,
ReplyDeleteYes to Platyedra subcinerea. A very nice record and unless Martin knows otherwise that will be only the second record for Bucks, the first being from the Burnham Beeches RIS trap way back in 2005. The other moth is indeed the dark form of Tawny-barred Angle. It doesn't appear all that often - I've seen it five times out of about 500 individuals.
Thanks Dave,
ReplyDeleteI could easily have missed it. It wasn't in the trap but beside it when I went for a last look before bed, so I potted it up there and then. Glad I did!
One confirmed last year Dave:

Thanks Adam! I had a vague recollection that there'd been another but couldn't place it - I should have checked the blog...
ReplyDeleteIt looks as if they like the first couple of days in June...based on a rather small sample!!
