A couple of interesting new records for my 27 year Sonning parish list recently - Alder Moth at Ali's Pond LNR on 2nd June (no alder nearby, but a few birches in large gardens) and an unseasonal Tawny Pinion in the garden last night - 9th June.

ReplyDeleteAlder Moth obviously survives on several other broad-leaved trees than its name might suggest. Alder is rare in my area (the Aylesbury Vale flatlands) yet the moth is reasonably common - I had six of them last night in Finemere Wood. In fact the only places Alder is found locally are where so-called ecologists have suggested it forms part of the local landscape (it doesn't) and so it appears in plantings on old land-fill sites and, I've recently noticed, where HS2 Ltd are doing their "mitigation planting".
