Migrants?

I know there is speculation about certain "migrant" species now breeding in the SE, but I had 3 White Points at COAM on Monday night and a Silver Y there last night.

While I'm here, could anyone point me in the right direction for these two micros?

And also Treble Bar or Lesser Treble Bar? Is it possible to tell? Didn't have the opportunity to look underneath!

  1. Hi Dave,
Your micro is an Elachista and with that arrangement of white spots and a black head it will almost certainly be atricomella but it would be a good idea to get it looked at properly by Peter. I'm not sure about your Treble-bar/Lesser Treble-bar. As has been mentioned before the forewing marking are often inconclusive so the claspers at the end of the abdomen should be checked (very easily done in a pot). I'm sure White-point is now resident in Bucks with two obvious generations which will still be "topped up" by migrants. At Westcott I had a single visitor in 2006 which must have been a migrant then no more until 2014 when it became an ever-increasing annual visitor here (totals of 119 in 2019 and 145 in 2020).
