White-barred Clearwing

I've been trying several lures recently in the garden here in Beenham without any sign of clearwings. They are very late this year. So I thought that I would try Decoy Heath in Berks with the TIP lure for White-barred this morning and saw at least one moth. (A second appeared at the trap 20 mins after the first visitation but I can't be sure it wasn't the same individual.) Hopefully this means that the other species will be out soon.

  1. Hi Derek,
Large Red-belted and White-barred are usually out and about in May but I don't even think of looking for the others until June at the earliest around here so I don't think they're necessarily late as yet, although that could be the case this year after the poor weather we've had over the past two months.

    1. Hi Dave,

Actually down south here in balmy Beenham my earliest dates are 21/5 for Red-belted, 24/5 for Yellow-legged, 30/5 for Currant, 31/5 for Orange-tailed, and 1/6 for Red-tipped so I was hoping to have seen at least some sps over the last week or so. No luck again today before the rains came. 1/6 was previously my latest for White-barred.
