It's the time of year when lots of these little critturs begin to appear and I always doubt every one I think I Know. Could someone identify this one for me so that I have a starting point?
A difficult bunch, as you say, but at least this is one of the slightly easier ones with that noticeably black outer wing section and those two black-ringed "eyes". It is Eudonia lacustrata, not one I've seen yet this year but I'm sure it'll appear here soon enough. Of the really common ones, Scoparia pyralella has had a surprisingly good start and S.ambigualis is also out now, as are Eudonia pallida and mercurella (along with angustea which can be found in any month of the year).

Thank you Dave, I had it as Eudonia possibly but it does help at the beginning of the year to get your sight in again
