Beautiful Snout

It was a good night for me last night with 40 macro species. In amongst them was this Beautiful Snout. It is a new species for me but I wondered if many other people had caught it locally? I only managed a terrible photo on my phone unfortunately, so apologises that it's not clearer.

  1. Nice! It is a strange moth which pops up in all sorts of places which seem to have no obvious connection to its larval food-plants (bilberry and heather).

  2. Yes, and new for VC 23 - well done! As Dave says it does seem to have a propensity to wander (and may be increasing). This one is most likely a stray from Berkshire heathland.

  3. Wow that is amazing! It was certainly worth putting the trap out!
