I trapped this moth in Merton on Friday. It looked like it should be easy to ID... the closest I have found is Oak Processionary, so for once I'm hoping I'm wrong and it will turn out to be something else that I should have known.......
Thanks Dave, that's re-assuring! I wasn't sure if I should be notifying anyone, but if it's likely to turn up across the area, I guess that's not an issue.
This most useful. I had two of these in my trap in Oxford from Friday night (29th) too - like you, I spent a little time mulling over what looked so distinctive. My photo is almost identical to yours.
Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteYes, that is Oak Processionary. The males could turn up anywhere in our area now.
It isn't really something to be overly worried about. Our European friends cope quite well with it and I'm sure we'll learn to as well.
