Marbled - correction!

Mike Hardman and Martin Honey have made this much more interesting, so new to Bucks and the UK :-

One candidula trapped in Hants last night, and the photo is different to my pyralid!

''that's the pyralid, Loryma egregialis. It's a species I know from the Balearic Islands (Martin). As far as I am aware there are no previous UK records. It's very much a mediterranean species.''

No real apologoes!

  1. Congratulations, Robin, that's quite a find. As far as I can tell from online sources, about the closest to Britain that this species has been previously seen is some records from the Mediterranean coast of France - see the map at https://www.lepinet.fr/especes/nation/carte.php?e=l&id=26150 . There are quite a few "tail-up" photos on https://oreina.org/artemisiae/observatoire/index.php?module=fiche&action=fiche&d=hetero&id=813911 and some on https://lepiforum.org/wiki/page/Loryma_egregialis

    1. Dear Tim, I noted the extraordinary position (in unpublished 'in trap' photos) but, innocent as I am for Mediterranean species, it still rang no warning bells!! I think there is a Belgian record. Robin.

  2. Yes, clearly egregialis from that very distinct resting position. A very nice find and, as Tim says, congratulations on a potential new species for the UK!
