Moitrelia obductella.

On the night of the 18th this moth turned up in my back garden:

Moitrelia obductella is a chalk grassland species, mostly found in the South, although Martin Albertini tells me a few have been caught in Bucks. But the 18th was a particularly hot night and maybe this was a wanderer.

  1. Hi Andy,
Nice! There have been quite a few seen in unexpected locations over the past week so, as you say, some movement from their usual haunts in the recent heat. The moth has been a resident at Grangelands in Bucks for the last three or four years so it seems to be expanding its range anyway.
