Interesting specimen of August Thorn - plus Oak Processionary

Caught this largely unmarked version of what I believe is August Thorn at Ali's Pond LNR in Sonning last night. Does anyone know if this is a specific named aberration? Also caught only my second Oak Processionary in 28 years of trapping here. I guess I'll need to report this to Forestry Commission.

  1. No need to report to anyone other than your CMR, Alastair. Males of Oak Processionary disperse far and wide and are of no interest to the Forestry Commission. It is a different matter if you happen find a female or caterpillars.

  2. Thanks Dave. Good to know. Makes sense. Any thoughts on whether that plain orange August Thorn is a named aberration or not?
