Poor photos - it is very lively but still retained - but this looks quite like Udea fulvalis. I see there were a couple of records from our region in previous years, but has it now colonised or is this a likely migrant, if ID correct?
Possible Udea fulvalis East Oxford 22 July 2022
Hello Ben,
ReplyDeleteThe ID looks good to me but it would be worth running it past Martin Townsend. For most of us that's still a rare moth away from the south coast! So far as I'm aware there have only ever been single records for Berks (2016) and Bucks (2019) but there may be a small colony in/around Oxford now because Martin has had several of them.
Hi Ben, As noted by Dave, there appears to be a colony in east Berks with multiple sightings by one recorder starting in 2016 in his garden at Ascot and consistently seen more recently (2020, 2021, 2022), and there was also a recent sighting by a different recorder at Maidenhead (12.7.22).
ReplyDeleteThis species is reportedly now quite numerous in another garden site in East Oxford now (per Will Langdon - don't know if he looks on here, but would trust his ID 100% on this)
