Micro mysteries again...

Would appreciate confirmation or otherwise on these three micros which I have tried to put names to:-

The first I believe is Argyresthia retinella, though could possibly be curvella, but FL of 4.5-5 mm seems to favour the former.

This next one I believe is Blastobasis lacticolella...

...and this I very tentatively have ID'd as Stenolechia gemella

Fingers crossed!

Thanks

Phil

  1. Hi Phil, I'll pass on the Argyresthia but agree with you on B. lacticolella. The last is probably Phycitodes binaevella but please wait for other opinions.

  2. Hello Phil,
Argyresthias can be quite difficult to determine from photos, especially when they start to get worn as this one is, but my feeling is that it is actually spinosella. The middle image is indeed Blastobasis lacticolella. The last image is, as Nigel says, a Phycitodes but the actual species would depend on its size. We get both maritima and binaevella locally and they can be difficult to separate on looks alone, but binaevella is significantly larger than maritima.

  3. Thanks to you both,
I still have the Argyresthia, so I'll send it for dissection.
I think I also have the Phycitodes, so I'll check its size.
