Those tricky Apameas!

Here are three that I think I've identified - I would be over the moon if even two out of three were correct! I have them (in order) as:

Large Nutmeg, Dusky Brocade and Clouded-bordered Brindle.

I await the verdict of you experts.

David

PS How do you get good photos of Carpets and the like that fly off too soon?

in these temperatures?

  1. Hi David, to me the first two are correct (your two out of three!) but the last is more like Clouded Brindle than Clouded-bordered Brindle. The easiest distinction between the latter two species I think is the pale sub-terminal line with a single central inward-pointing wedge for CB, not found on C-bB, but also there is the presence of a short dark central basal streak on CB.
As for Carpets, I pot them and then wait (patiently) for them to settle down!

  2. Thanks, John - very helpful. I shall celebrate my 2 out of 3 with a beer tomorrow!
