Dotted Fan-foots

Just winding up this morning at Linford Lakes Nature Reserve having spent a pleasant hour or so  recording the 209 moths of 51 species that had settled in and around the 125W MV Robinson trap when, almost as if out of nowhere,  these two appeared.  We reckoned they are 2 rather worn Dotted Fan-foots.  If so, they are new records for LLNR.  The atlas reports them moving west from East Anglia and found locally in Oxfordshire so we are en route..

  1. That is a good range extension, about 25km further North in Bucks than any of the 25 records in the database.

  2. Hi Gordon,

Nice find! If they're moving west from East Anglia then the wetland sites around MK would seem to be ideal territory for them. I had the moth regularly in the garden here between 2013 and 2017 (ten records in all) but there's been no sign of it since then, so maybe it was only established here temporarily. However, Bernwood Forest has produced records for the last couple of years so it is hopefully still around locally.
